You might be looking at this because a Cub, Brownie, Rainbow or Beaver has recently taken part in a Flat Stan First Aid workshop at school. Our programme has introduced thousands of children to a variety of life skills and many of them are included in the First Aid badge. Hopefully the table below will help you decide if an award has been achieved or give you an idea of what other topics should be covered.

Level 1 / Stage 1 Requirements	Covered in Flat Stan First Aid Workshop
Discuss the limitations of your knowledge as a first aider and the importance of getting adult help quickly.	Covered.
Discuss how germs and diseases are transmitted and the importance of cleanliness to you and your patient.	Covered.
Show you understand DRABC.	Covered, but not using the acronym DRABC. You can refer to the Flat Stan First Aid resource given to the child.
Show how to treat minor cuts and abrasions. Put on an adhesive dressing.	Covered.
Demonstrate how to treat a nosebleed.	Covered.
Using a triangular bandage, show how to put on a sling and a head bandage.	Not covered. Children are shown how to treat a wound using everyday items such as clothing and towels.
Show how to put on an ankle bandage using a 5cm or 7.5cm roller bandage.	Not covered.
Discuss how to dial the emergency number in your area and to ask for a special service, from a land line and mobile phone	Covered.
Level 2 / Stage 2 Requirements

Demonstrate how to place someone into the recovery position and to open and keep the airway clear.	Covered on some occasions. Current Resuscitation Counsil protocols are to leave a casualty as they are found unless their airway is compromised or could be compromised.
Show how to clean and dress a gravel rash or abrasion.	Not covered.
Show how to treat a bleeding wound on the body and on a limb.	Covered.
Explain heat related conditions and how you should treat a patient showing the signs and symptoms of these.	Not covered.
Discuss the common causes of burns and scalds and show how to treat them.	Covered.
Show how to treat: a. snake and funnel web spider bites. b. other spider bites. c. insect bites.	Not covered.
Discuss how to use land and mobile phones in an emergency and deliver a message to an adult over 100 metres away.	Covered regarding phones, but not delivering a message to an adult over 100 metres away.
